I watched “About Time” for free at Watch32.com  It was one of those nights when I wake up in the middle of my sleep and find difficulty going back. So, I realized this was actually a perfect opportunity for me to catch up with my viewing needs. I am a sucker for Romance and everything that has it. I was that little girl who wished upon a star for a prince charming, the young lady who prayed for someone who will sweep me off my feet and I am that woman who loves flowers more than anything else as a gift from the guy I love; since I do believe that the most valuable gift is the memory and the feeling of Romance. Enough said about me. This article is really about the movie that caught my attention knowing that it was written and directed by the same person who did “Notting Hill” and that is none other than the great Richard Curtis.

It all begins with Tim. He stays with his family in a home away from the hustle and bustle of city life. He enjoys the company of his father, sister, uncle and mother even though they’re a little bit rough around the edges, he certainly loved how they would do their routines everyday on the same time and on the same places; for me they are the perfect picture of a happy family. Tim is a quiet one and just by looking at him you can tell that he is that type of guy who’s too shy to do anything to a girl at all. He easily gets nervous around pretty women and never had a girlfriend at the age of 21.

Tim and his Dad, time traveling together
Tim and his Dad, time traveling together

When he reached this controversial age, the morning after he was summoned by his father for a very important conversation. He found it awkward that his dad was too serious and a bit jumpy about something that he was about to know that very moment. Since Mr. Lake didn’t have any other way to put it, he told Tim with no holding back that men of their family gains the ability to travel time upon reaching the age of 21. Tim was in shock, he didn’t believe it at all. But as a son knowing his own father, he surely knows that his dad was not joking so he asked him how does it happen if it were true and how far can he travel back to time. His started answering his questions; 1. You can only go back as far as what you can remember and only to the places you’ve been; 2. To travel, you must go to a dark room, close your eyes and clench your fist tightly as you try to remember the time you wanted to go back to.

The very first thing that he did was to try it out. He, right there and then went up to his closet and thought of that New Year’s Eve when his nerves got the best of him and wasn’t able to kiss a young lady that he danced with that night. He got there, kissed and went back. He can’t believe what just happened. The first question that his dad ask him was what does Tim wants out of his Time Traveling? With no doubt, he answered: “I want to get myself a girlfriend”.  I remember Tim thinking out loud that for him it was really all about love; the attraction, the pursuit and all the memories that he wanted to make with that very special person he would end up growing old with.

From that very moment, he did bits of experimentation with his time traveling and tried testing it to get girls be interested in him; it turned out that it was as hard even with time travel. When he decided to start a Law firm career, he went to London to find a new path or maybe with a little bit of luck, also the right girl for him. One night, he went into one of those unique restaurants called a “Dans Le Noir”, a chain of restaurants and spas where guests are served in total darkness, a concept called dark dining or blind dining.  There, the magic happened, even in total darkness Mary and Tim were able to connect, chat and throw jokes at each other. The moment that dinner was over, Tim went out and waited excitedly hoping for a pretty lady to come out and be the Mary that he met inside. Luckily for him, Mary was everything he hoped for and more. I honestly felt butterflies in my stomach because this is my favorite part of all love stories, Isn’t it that when we see two people in love we always ask them first; “So how did you too meet?”. No matter what happens, any person will remember and will always go back to how everything started and I honestly am very fond of it myself.

Tim and Mary first met each other at a "Dans Le Noir"
Tim and Mary first met each other at a “Dans Le Noir”

Tim was floating among the clouds and with no doubt has fallen madly in love with Mary during their first meet even without the first sight. But on the latter part of the movie, he experiences challenges because his attempt to help other people is causing some undesirable consequences; like, if he was to go back before the time he actually met Mary, it would be as if he didn’t meet her at all which creates frustration and determination to redo things  and finally have Mary fall in love to him all over again. It was tough for Tim but he saw through. They started living together in one apartment and one day Mary told Tim that her parents are visiting and it was on that same morning that she just told him. Good thing he had the power to travel time, because if not oh my I can only imagine what would’ve happened because Tim is not really good at leaving positive first impressions.

They enjoyed being together everyday, every moment and every second of their lives, it was the biggest dream come true for Tim. I must say, this film is really good since at the time, I found myself smiling and feeling happy as if I actually knew Tim and Mary in person. They married on a rainy afternoon on the backyard lawn of Tim’s home and held a very interesting ceremony since it poured heavy rains that day and everybody were really wet. It was a wonderful wedding since it did exceed all expectations of an ordinary one. Then, not long enough they had “Posy”; their first born baby girl. Upon being blessed with Posy in their lives, she was able to bring more happiness to Tim and Mary than they already have with each other. However it may seem that life is so perfect, but sometimes destiny comes back right up and hits life in the face with disasters.

My first time to see a bloody red themed wedding
My first time to see a bloody red themed wedding

Kitty, Tim’s younger sister had a car accident after getting into a fight with her boyfriend on her way to Posy’s birthday celebration. Upon knowing, Tim was snapped out of bliss and attended to Kitty with regret and guilt thinking that he might’ve not paid more attention to her and he missed that Kitty was actually having some serious problems with her boyfriend. During these times, Tim wasn’t using much of his time travel anymore since everything laid out perfectly for him, Mary and Posy until what happened to Kitty. So he opted to go back in time and help Kitty not know the guy at all and that meant going back to the same New Year’s Eve when Tim kissed a girl for the first time. When he went back, he was so surprised that he didn’t have Posy anymore but a different baby boy. He was deeply saddened by this and consulted his dad about it right after he knew. So his frustrations about the consequences of Time Travel is happening all over again and it was affecting his own family. He eventually managed to get Posy and everything else back to shape again until one day the big news came about his dad’s health condition.

There were exchanges of time travels between Tim and his Dad after learning the latter’s condition, back and forth they go until they both had the courage to enjoy the remaining time his Dad left to live with. They had very meaningful conversations, the ones that only a Father and Son have. I felt the grief and pain of  Tim as he slowly bids goodbye to the greatest man he knew. As a final advice, his dad said “Live life one day at a time.” And so Tim did. Slowly after his father’s death he slowly grew out of fixing things by time traveling and enjoyed every single day that he is having with the people he loves most—-His Family.

I personally thank Richard Curtis for writing this great story of life and love with the twist of time travel as it gives and reminds people those of which has the most value and those that we need to put focus and priority on. This is a must see movie and for those who hasn’t seen it yet, your just a few clicks away from watching it yourself for free. Watch out for more movie reviews coming soon.

Style, as I was taught back in  high school is something that never runs out of fashion, it is your own unique way of doing, dressing and basically everything that’s around you and in you. Life on the other hand is actually what you make out of it, some people may say they have a happy life, an adventurous, a hype or even a simple life. If we combine both, then my own coined definition of Lifestyle is:  a person’s chosen way of living that reflects in everything he does or doesn’t be it on dining, clothing, travel, shopping, cooking or even work. Philip Abadicio is someone that has been writing and doing TV shows about “The Lifestyler’s Guide” .

BPI 24/7, banking whereever…..

BPI Express Online Banking 24/7 is the second best partner you’ll ever have in working at home, first of course is GoAutoDIAL’s “JustGoCloud” computing system. You guys might have read about my article entitled: “Bank of the Philippine Islands” wherein I made a quick trip down to memory lane on how BPI started and how it has been continuously developing, offering more and more dynamic services to a wide array of clientele.  Now, let me tell you more about one awesome service in particular that would help everybody  who is or plans to work at home; and that is none other than BPI 24/7.

Online banking  is actually not something new as per Wikipedia. The precursor for the modern home online banking services were the distance banking services over electronic media from the early 1980s. The term online became popular in the late…

DTI’s Sikat Pinoy fair to showcase handicrafts in September

The first was food, this time around we go with handicrafts!!!! Be Sikat! Be Pinoy!
The first was food, this time around we go with handicrafts!!!! Be Sikat! Be Pinoy!

After staging a successful national food fair in August, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is launching another national fair to promote and sell Filipino handicrafts under its Sikat Pinoy brand this month.

“This is the second edition of DTI’s national domestic trade fairs under our newly introduced Sikat Pinoy brand,” DTI Undersecretary for Trade and Investment Promotions Ponciano C. Manalo, Jr. said.

With the tagline “Piling-piling produktong Pilipino”, the DTI will hold the Sikat Pinoy National Handicrafts Fair from September 19 to 23 at the SM Megatrade Halls, SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

“With the artistic and innovative Filipino handiworks from different regions of the Philippines available in this fair, we intend to kick off the Christmas shopping season that usually starts as early as September in the country,” Manalo said.

The fair will showcase furniture and furnishings, home décor, gifts and housewares, holiday décor, wearables, accessories, and jewelry.

“Aside from shoppers from Metro Manila and nearby provinces, corporate buyers and institutional merchandisers are also expected to visit and make this fair an opportunity to support the growth of participating micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs),” Manalo said.

The Sikat Pinoy National Food Fair, held last August, and involving over 250 micro, small and medium-sized food entrepreneurs from the country’s 16 regions, generated about P15 million in cash and booked sales.

For more information on the Sikat Pinoy National Handicrafts Fair, you may contact the DTI through the Bureau of Domestic Trade (BDT) at 751.3223, or email at bdt@dti.gov.ph.  The BDT is on the ground floor of the Trade and Industry Building, 361 Senator Gil Puyat Avenue in Makati City. You may also visit Sikat Pinoy fairs’ website at http://www.sikatpinoyfairs.com, or “Like” its Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/SikatPinoyFairs.

So guys and gals if you loved the first, I ‘m sure your going to adore the second. This time it’s gonna be handicrafts and there’s plenty to be excited about since Filipinos are known to be very creative. Remember, September 19-23, 2013. Keep posted for the upcoming highlights, schedule and many more…..

See you there

This is about a revelation back in 1983 where girls at their late teens and early twenties have been missing for twelve long years in Alaska, until one escaped. Horrifying as the Alaskan troopers slowly uncover bizarre means of executing helpless women after they’ve been beaten and sexually abused. It turned out that this man had done unimaginable cruelty to more than thirty girls and hasn’t been penalized for doing so until Cindy Paulson’s case.

It was pouring outside but me, my husband and my daughter were on a motorcycle on our way to a birthday party held at shakey’s “kalentong”, i really have no idea if that’s a street or something else. There are two things I’m very poor at in life and those are geography and history, I can only give directions if I’ve been there and will not dare travel alone on far distances; hence my naive reference of the place. Anyway, for those who experienced the rain yesterday you guys might think that I may be a little bit loose on the head since we still pushed thru amidst the weather condition. Well only moms would understand the joy of seeing your baby enjoy in a children’s party. It was the 1st birthday celebration of my husband’s godchild and the son of a close friend, malik. Like all one year olds they have no idea at all of what’s to come so he was a bit playful at first but at the middle part of the program there goes the crankiness, irritation and all the crying. Going back, we did arrive dripping with rainwater as expected. Nevertheless, we managed to dry ourselves up and join the fun and it reaezlly was a lot of it especially for my 2-year old princess (she’s still wearing a cape and eating candies from the party til now). The first part was a prayer of course and then came the games, first off were the children. My sophia was all over the place, she can’t stay in one spot even for just 2 minutes but she was adorable and just watching her enjoy herself makes me feel heartwarmingly happy as well as her daddy who was watching and smiling with content. After the babies, there were quick games for adults as well then comes the eating part. Their menu was the classic list of entrees which Shakey’s is very popular of: spaghetti, carbonara, chicken, mojos and my God; a lot of pizza. I so love almost everything but I just need to say this: the chicken was so darn salty that it’s no surprise a lot were left untouched, but overall the food were deliciously prepared and served. There was this amazing full bar of different sorts of candies and chocolates where you can just grab a small plastic bag and get some to your heart’s desire. It’s no secret that I have a sweet tooth so I had to be the first one to get some with no trace of hesitation even though I felt like people are staring strangely at me. Aside from the candy bar there was also a photo booth where you get four poses in one picture printed right after it was taken, it was quite a challenge trying to get sophia pose for the camera when we only had 5 seconds each pose but it was fun. There were also two clowns who entertained everybody during the entire time and they also did some classic magic tricks that got my baby surprisingly pay some attention even for five minutes or so, they were not so awesome but I guess they would do for the children. I couldn’t be more happy that we endured travelling under the raincoat as among all the children’s party we’ve ever been this was the most worth the word of mouth and the word of blog. So we went home tired, wet but we brought with us memories that no amount of rain can keep us from going back to.

Lost and hoping to be found….

There’s a point in your life that you feel so sure, this is it your doing what you want and you have your steps planned ahead of you. Then you work on whatever that’s thrown at you, you say to yourself, “come on! Bring it b#€ch!”. You continue to have faith and see what others don’t, you close your eyes and feel almost taste that sweet something and you smile. Beautiful isn’t it? Amazing in fact.

For quite a while, there’s bits of pieces that you start to see not as you dreamt of. You take a second look and then you say to yourself ” wait a sec, this shouldn’t be happening!”, well take an ocean deep breath as yes it is. What now? What next? Your reaction depends on the level of your maturity and ofcourse who you are.

You try to confront and see what happens, but then you get the most unexpected result. A big fat “nothing”. Then you just opt to do what works…..givin it time, passin, hopin and sadly cryin…….

You wanna go grab a smoke or a bottle of booze, a quickfix is better than nothing anyway. You want it so badly you stared at those pretty shiny bottles at the grocery store for 5 minutes when your actually buying something way different. No, you can’t, there’s somebody else counting on you; somebody who sees you as her entire world and is your number one fan then you say to yourself “maybe another day” and just walk away with your tiniest speck of hope that everything will work out just fine.IMG_5418425506596

That's just me...

Life’s a big crazy roller coaster and there’s no any other option but to try enjoy it even if at times there’s a steep downward slope that you don’t see coming your way; because deep in your heart and soul you know it will again go up and give you the glimpse of the sun, the sky and everything else that makes it worth the ride.
